America's Longest Race.......World's Smallest Bikes

(Note:this race took place in 1997, but it is worth keeping this page up. One of the best races we have ever been to. TCR)

The Second Annual "12 Hours of Texas" Endurance Championship was as much fun this year, as last. This now Annual event offers hours and hours of racing, some great competition, and as they say....more fun than a human being should be allowed!
The TMGP is to be congratulated on once again presenting a very professional race under not always ideal conditions. Dennie Spears, Scott Sheaffer, et al, can be very proud of their club. It is a great group of guys and gals for sure!
Some positive changes for the 1997 event were the addtion to the Denton track of significant length, and a great scoring system, not to mention it only rained lightly in the early going! Two straights, linked by a hair pin, gave the riders a chance to relax for a second or two. One straight is approximately 400 feet, then a hairpin, and onto the second straight of approximately 600 ft, then back onto the original track. The lighting is good throught the whole track, and due to a good scraping job the traction was significantly better than last year. The new scoring system was awesome and more importantly, when done properly, accurate!
The weather even cooperated, in a manner of speaking, and at the drop of the green flag, was about 70 degrees and 70% humidity. By midnight, it was in the low 50's with very low humidity and a wind chill that made it feel like the Antartic! But, no significant rain!! Yeah! (The Denton track is slippery when dry, and impossible when wet!) So...the racing got started, and let no one kid you about it, a 12 hour, flat out sprint race ensued! Some great riders, very well prepared bikes, and no red flags! At midnight the checkers were dropped, and a lot of us dropped with it! It's a long race, but the time seems to go by very quickly!
