There are many Mini Road racing venues
in the world. For example; the United States, Canada, Mexico,
Puerto Rico, Paraguay, The Netherlands, England, Greece, Japan,
Denmark, etc. |
The majority of YSR racers are men
between the ages of 23-48. Very few kids and women. In Mexico
the majority of mini racers are youngsters. The largest group
of women competitors is in Northern California. |
|
Mini Road racers come in all sizes
and shapes, with weight not really being as much of a factor
as one would think. There are many 200lb plus Mini racers throughout
the world. |
Participation in the U.S. is quite
high. Average rider count around 92-100. Most of the riders enter
more than one class, so it makes for a full race day with plenty
of track time. |
|
Cost of racing is quite low compared to big bikes. Average entry is $35 with decreasing fees as more classes are entered. Most organizations charge a flat fee for membership for the year to help defray expenses. (As usual, insurance is the big cost.) Mini Road Racing is one of the last great areas where racing is a "grass roots" endeavor. Many of the participants have gone
on to professional racing, such as the Roberts, Bostroms, Haydyns,
etc. but the vast majority do it for fun! |
There is no national organization
for YSR races, but the classes follow a pattern in the U.S. and
Canada. Generally the class structure is as follows: Stock, Supersport,
Superbike, Big Wheel, Thunder (XR100's) and 80GP. Most tracks
break that class structure down further having Novice and Expert
Classes. The majority of the tracks limit the 80GP class to the
Expert riders. (Safety being the reason) There are also many
seperate classes, such as Juniors, Vets, and Women. |
